Devlin TOPS hold mini rally

The annual TOPS mini rally was held March 30 at Crossroads School.

The room was decorated with a spring-like theme, as some members had seen to it to ensure the decorating suited this special occasion.

This event was well attended by guests along with the roughly 30 active members of the group.

The evening was full of anticipation as it is that special night of the year when the accomplishments of members are recognized.

It was easy to feel the excitement in the room that night, not only for each individual member but for the caring and support they extend to each other for their success and struggles.

A very special award was presented to Penny O’Leary--the “Inspiration” award. Every member felt she was very deserving of this for all her time and effort given to members in the club.

She constantly encourages members, and comes up with great ideas to make meetings more educational and interesting.

The “Shrinking Person award, which is given out to the member losing the most inches in the year, was presented to Gayle Hyatt, with Neila Booth an extremely close second.

Other prestigious awards went to:

•Alumni KOPS--Gayle Kelly (10 years) and Freeda Carmody (six years).

•Division #2 winner was Liz Pegler, Division #3 winner was Marie Saunders, and Division #4 winner was Penny O’Leary.

Members graduating to KOPS were Rachel Maxton, Cynthia Bolen, and Josette Vargas.

The member with the most consecutive weight loss was Marie Saunders (17 weeks).

As the evening progressed, you could feel the excitement increase as to who would be the chapter queen and who would become mini queen.

As the evening drew to an end, the special moment arrived when the chapter queen was recognized. This went to Josette Vargas.

Then the big moment came when the mini rally queen title went to Ruth Siemens.

Both were in tears as they were given velvet capes, crowned, and presented with flowers, trophies, and certificates for their achievements.

The evening ended with the 1998-1999 executive being sworn in by a candle lighting ceremony.

They include: Tammy Shoemaker (leader), Neila Booth (co-leader), Vicki Vanderaa (secretary), Trudy Badiuk (treasurer), Marie Saunders (weight recorder), and Joan Hughes (weight recorder assistant).

The awards, along with the special music performed by Rose Mose and daughters, June and Angela, made the evening a great success and a great way to spend a Monday night.

We even had the opportunity to enjoy a healthy lunch, and congratulate and share conversation with all members.
