The Northwestern Health Unit re-opened Morley Beach at Stratton on Wednesday after having declared it “unsafe for swimming” on Friday due to high bacterial counts found during routine sampling.
Morley Beach was the most recent of district beaches to be closed due to high levels of bacteria. These levels most often are the result of run-off from shorelines, which varies depending on water levels.
Hannam Park Beach in Rainy River had been closed by the health unit for about two weeks last month while the beach at Sunny Cove Camp was off limits to swimming for several days in June.
Weekly routine sampling will continue throughout the summer at district beaches, including Pither’s Point, which has been “safe” so far this season.
