Emo and area residents will have the chance to receive local dental care again next month--something they haven’t had access to since Dr. James Singer left town three months ago.
Fort Frances dentists Dr. Brent Danylchuk and Dr. Mike Gerstner, co-owners of the Fort Frances Dental Centre, have decided to open up a "satellite" practice at the Emo Health Centre starting Sept. 3.
Drs. Gerstner and Danylchuk approached Emo council with the idea of re-opening the dental clinic after its attempts to find a permanent replacement were unsuccessful.
"The town’s been looking but no one had been finalized," said Dr. Gerstner. "They wanted someone long-term and it’s tough to find a dentist who will stay.
"We’re here for the long-term and we [already] have patients from Emo," he added. "Now they will have the option to be seen in Emo . . . to get the work done at home instead of travelling."
The Emo Dental Clinic is slated to be open four days a week, with FFDC associate dentists Dr. Steve Kuzdenyi and Dr. George House job-sharing there.
"There will be one dentist there at any point in time," said Dr. Danylchuk, adding the Emo practice will run similar to the way it did when Dr. Singer was there.
General procedures such as cleanings and fillings will be offered in Emo, as well as emergency treatments, root canals and dental surgery. Virtual reality glasses will be available for patients’ use while they undergo dental work.
A dental hygienist also will be on staff at the Emo location during office hours.
Those wishing to access the Emo Dental Clinic can make appointments through the Fort Frances Dental Centre (274-9001) until the practice--and its phone line--opens next week.
