Bearskin lease renewed

Town council authorized the renewal of an annual lease agreement with Bearskin Airlines LP at the Fort Frances Airport during its regular meeting Monday night.
The new rate increased by one percent ($10,208.76 per year),

Council also:
•authorized the suspension of calendar parking on the 400 block of Nelson Street for the period of June 24-26, as per a request from the Sister Kennedy Centre;
•approved a request from the Rainy River District Stewardship to plant trees in the infill area along the ski trails off Eighth Street and on the two industrial lots west of Webster Avenue between Sixth and Eighth Street (however, the town denied the request to plant along McIrvine Road due to ongoing storm sewer maintenance activities there);
•approved purchase card expenses for Fort Frances CAO Mark McCaig in the amount of $638.89, and a travel claim in the amount of $836.74 (for attending a University of Waterloo economic development course); and
•approved per diem claims for Mayor Roy Avis and Couns. John Albanese, Andrew Hallikas, Ken Perry, Paul Ryan, and Rick Wiedenhoeft for attendance at the Northwestern Ontario Municipal Association annual general meeting here April 23-25 (each member of council claimed $300).
