FFYS to start Monday
Fort Frances Youth Soccer is hoping the weather plays ball so they can play next week.
At its board of directors’ meeting Tuesday, it was decided to start the new season this Monday (April 28) for Divisions 1, 2, and 5 and next Tuesday (April 29) for Divisions 3 and 4.
A total of 372 players have registered this year.
McGuire, however, noted the washrooms at the St. Francis Sportsfields will not be open until May 5 due to the still-lingering frost.
The jerseys ordered for this season, in place of the traditional T-shirts, also will have to wait until the second week of the season to be issued.
McGuire said the jerseys have taken longer than expected to arrive.
As for field preparations, McGuire said they are in discussion with the town in regards to lining the fields for Monday.
“With our rental contract in place for a while now, we are hoping they come through and can push that job for this week,” she remarked.
McGuire also advised parents to dress their soccer-playing children accordingly for the games, considering the cool winds that tend to blow through the playing fields.
