Thistles bounced

It was Friday the 18th, not the 13th, but Jason still delivered a killer performance.
Jason Ward had a goal and three assists to lead the host Dundas Real McCoys to a 4-0 victory over the Kenora Thistles in the semi-final of the 2014 Allan Cup national senior men’s hockey championship on Good Friday.

The McCoys went on to capture the title with a thrilling 3-2 overtime win against the Clarenville (NL) Caribous on Saturday.
Ryan Christie added a pair of goals for Dundas against Kenora while Simon Mangos netted one to complement a 28-save shutout effort by Mike Mole.
Ryan Person had 25 saves for the Thistles.
Kenora’s roster featured Fort Frances residents Tyler Miller and Dan MacIntyre, as well as former Borderland Thunder goalie Tyler Gordon from Hudson and former Muskie goalie Cody Wood from Atikokan.
The Thistles went 0-2 in Division 1 pool play, but then pulled out a 3-2 victory over the South East Prairie Thunder (Man.) in Thursday’s first-round playoff game.
Sean McAslan’s power-play goal at 13:57 of the third was the game-winner while Matt Miller and Justin Bowers also tallied for Kenora.
Person had 25 saves to earn the victory.
Former 11-year NHL veteran Terry Yake and Riley Dudar had the markers for the Thunder while Steve Christie recorded 23 saves.
Tyler Miller and MacIntyre played in all four tournament games for the Thistles, with Miller scoring one goal and MacIntyre recording an assist.
Gordon lost his only start of the tournament 5-2 to Clarenville while Wood didn’t see any game action.
