Mayhem close regular season with shutout

Main Street Mayhem had no interest in experiencing a losing streak.
Jaymee Fiset rifled home a season-high five goals and Krista Kellar picked up the shutout as the Mayhem (8-1) crushed Cater 2 U Queens (4-4) by a 10-0 margin in Borderland Women’s Indoor Soccer League action last night at Fort Frances High School.

The Mayhem, who have a bye for next week’s final week of the regular season, were coming off their only defeat of the year in their previous outing, a 3-2 loss to Wright Physiotherapy Rockettes.
But with Fiset raising her league-leading goal total to 23 and Kellar filling in admirably for absent regular starting goalkeeper Phyllis Pierson, the Mayhem had little difficulty in getting back on the winning track against the Queens, who have now lost three straight.
Main Street also had the advantage of having one player available on the bench, while Cater 2 U had nobody to substitute and had to play with the same players on the floor the entire game.
Abby Sanders, who is second in the league with 10 goals, contributed a hat trick to the victory, while Alex Spuzak notched her first two goals of the season for the Mayhem.
The Queens face the Rockettes (3-4-1) next Wednesday (April 23) at Fort High at 7 p.m. in a preview of the league semifinal, with the Mayhem already having clinched first place and a bye to the final.
