The Tagg’s Bantam ‘AA’ hockey team dumped the Dryden Hornets 8-1 here Saturday in their first exhibition game of the season.
After the game, head coach Dave Egan had to make his final three roster cuts to finalize the team at 17 players.
“They made it very tough for us. They can all be proud of themselves,” Egan said.
Shawn Councillor opened the scoring with nine minutes left in the first period before Mike Niskala added another minutes later to make it 2-0 lead.
Tagg’s scored three more goals in the second period off the sticks of Shane Belluz, Tanner Kaemingh, and Jamie Davis. Belluz, Davis, and Niskala rounded out scoring in the third.
Shaun Egan had three assists.
The Hornets tallied their lone goal with a minute to go in the game to spoil the combined shutout bid of Jason Green and Mark Buist.
Tagg’s next will make the trip to Dryden this weekend for a rematch against the Hornets. Their first tournament action is the Robin’s Donut Invitational in Thunder Bay next month.
