Three Devlin riders were honoured at the annual Northern Superior Quarter Horse awards banquet Saturday, hosted by the local Borderland Quarter Horse Association.
Kayla Caul, riding “Itz Ropin Time,” took home three awards—Senior Western Pleasure Reserve, the Halter Gelding Reserve, and All-Around Senior Horse Reserve.
Karen Davis and Michelle Beck each won two awards.
Davis (“A Pretty Melody”) won Junior Trail Horse Reserve and All-Around Novice Amateur while Beck (“Cat Dancing Lady”) won the All-Around Novice Youth Reserve and the All-Around Youth 13 and under Reserve.
About 60 people were on hand at the Red Dog Inn for the banquet, which saw 34 awards handed out to riders from Northwestern Ontario.
Awards were earned based on points accumulated over the horse show season, which runs from June and October.
The three riders, along with Leanne Beck and Alana Wieringa, competed in 11 shows across the region to earn points.
In related news, Caul and “Itz Ropin Time” were highlighted in the December issue of American Quarter Horse Journal’s section on “Youth Champions.”
The 15-year-old Caul and her 1994 chestnut gelding collected seven grand championships and four reserve ones this past season.
