The local Knights of Columbus PeeWee ‘AA’ hockey team took top honours at the annual Lake of the Woods tournament in Baudette, Mn. over the weekend.

Josh Sigurdson and Paul Dobransky scored in a 2-1 win over the Roseau Rams in the final. Wade Friesen earned the win in goal.

The tourney title was the second in a row for the KCs, who captured their first in Keewatin the previous weekend.

The boys went 1-1 in round-robin play, losing to Lake of the Woods 4-3 but doubling Rouseau 4-2. Then they toppled International Falls 9-0, in the semi-finals.

Tyler Miller led the attack with four goals altogether, followed by Andrew Easton (three) and Eric Soucy, Sigurdson, and Dobransky (two each).

Brian White, Tyson Kadikoff, and Brock Benjamin added singles.

Elsewhere, an Atom ‘A’ tournament was held in Kenora over the weekend, with a pair of Emo teams meeting in the ‘A’ final.

The Hawks prevailed over the Selects in a shootout. The score had been tied at 1-1 after regulation and overtime, with the Hawks winning the shootout 2-0.

Two local teams—the MEC Bulldogs and Gillons’—also competed there, with Gillons’ winning the ‘C’ crown with a 3-0 win over the Kenora McDonald’s.

MEC made it to the ‘A’ semi-finals before being eliminated by the Hawks in another shootout.
