Champs on a skid
These are not the best of basketball times for La Place Rendez-Vous.
Caleb McIntosh scored a game-high 26 points as the Muskies bombed the Vous 75-45 in the Fort Frances Men’s Basketball League regular-season finale for both teams Monday at Fort High.
But the squad is in serious jeopardy of not being able to defend its league title going into this Monday’s semi-final showdown against fourth-place Taggs on a two-game losing streak.
That’s because the reigning champs are down two players in their lineup, including leading scorer Josh Mastin, who averaged nearly 50 points per game this season but is gone for the year due to injury.
Josh Pawluk led the Vous in scoring for the second-straight week with 10 points.
Meanwhile, Boston Pizza (7-5) held off Taggs (3-8) by a score of 87-84 in Monday’s other game.
Garnet Cornell led the victors with 34 points while Brady Jensen had 28 for Taggs.
The semi-finals get underway this Monday with second-place Boston Pizza facing the third-place Muskies (5-7) at 6:45 p.m.
The Vous and Taggs then will square off at 8 p.m.
