Club tops

The “Tbaytel for Good” program announced this morning that the Border Skating Club was successful in becoming the grand-prize winner of $5,000.
The money will be used to replace the music systems at the Memorial Sports Centre.

“I’m ecstatic,” enthused BSC board member Anne Renaud.
“There were some really good ideas out there, lots of competition, so we are really excited that we were selected,” she added.
The club made the submission to the program back in January because it is in need of upgrading the sound systems in both arenas, as well as provide a portable sound system.
“We’ve been using really, really old equipment,” Renaud noted.
She explained the systems use CD players only, with no option to play digital music—the form that’s most accessible these days.
Besides that, Renaud said the older equipment doesn’t even function properly.
Now with the $5,000 prize, the skating club will be able to make the upgrades to the sound systems over the summer and be ready to go in the fall for a new season.
“We really appreciate the support of the community in rallying around us to make this happen,” Renaud said.
Part of the competition for the funds included online voting.
The club garnered more than 9,000 votes—the highest of the 15 entries.
