Scam alert

On March 4, Rainy River District OPP officers were advised of a phone scam trying to deceive a local resident of cash in support of an initiative targeting bullying.
The scam involved a male calling a Fort Frances residence and asking them to make a donation in the amount of $100, $200, or $300.

The resident did not donate and called police.
The Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre warns consumers and businesses to be on the lookout for a variety scams targeting our communities.
The scammers are practised con men and women that use tactics to befriend, gain trust, and even scare people into parting with their money—in some cases their life savings.
