Mike Scheibler, owner of Tamrack International Motocross Track north of Emo, is hoping for a dry spring so riders can get out on the track sooner.
“Weather and ground conditions permitting . . . I’d like to get going by the end of April,” said Scheibler, adding he’s scheduled eight race dates for this year.
The first race is slated for April 28-29.
“If it works, it works and if it doesn’t, well, we tried,” he remarked.
The other race dates are May 12-13, May 19-20, June 16-17, June 30-July 1, Aug. 4-5, Aug. 11-12, and Sept. 1-2.
Scheibler indicated the track also will host a couple of clinics this season, likely in May or June (the dates will be announced when he has more information).
Also new for this season at Tamrack will be some halftime entertainment with a “Run for Cash” barrel racing.
Five barrels will be set up for any riders who want to attempt to run the course the fastest and cleanest.
The first-, second-, and third-place finishers will win cash from the entry fees paid to participate.
“So the more riders, the more money they run for,” Scheibler explained.
He also noted the track will incorporate three different lengths this year. The shortest track will be for the youngest riders while a longer track will be available, as well as the full course.
And he’s expecting a good racing season. “This year should be a lot busier, so we’ll just see,” he remarked.
Scheibler added he’s looking for help to make the season better than last year.
“I need people who are interested in coming on board a committee to help run certain aspects. I can’t do it all by myself,” he stressed, adding they would be paid positions.
One particular positions he needs to fill is the flagging spots.
“I need some serious people to do some serious flagging. And they will be trained,” he noted.
As well, Scheibler is hoping to get some volunteers to assist him in building platforms for the flaggers to stand on.
