FFYS still searching for coaches, players

With one night of registration left, Fort Frances Youth Soccer is prospering on some fronts but struggling on others.
FFYS spokesperson Catherine McGuire encouraged those players, coaches, and referees interested in signing up to attend tonight’s third and final registration from 6-8 p.m. at the Memorial Sports Centre.

“Right now, we need coaches for Division 3 [players born in 2003 and 2004],” noted McGuire.
“We only have three coaches at this point so unless we get more, that’s all the teams we can have for that group.”
McGuire said Division 5 [born in 1999-2000] also is in trouble in two areas.
“We only have one coach guaranteed and two possible coaches,” she remarked.
“But we also only have enough kids for one Division 5 team right now.”
Because of the possibility of some Division 5 players making the Muskie girls’ and boys’ soccer teams, McGuire said FFYS is offering a full refund to any player in that age group who signs up for FFYS should they end up making the high school squad.
On the plus side, McGuire said Squirts (born in 2009 or earlier), Division 1 (born in 2007-08), and Division 2 (born in 2005-06) are in good shape for both players and coaches.
But she added more of both are welcome to sign up.
Meanwhile, Division 4 (born in 2001-02) has four guaranteed coaches, although player numbers were not available by press time.
Plans for a late registration night, as has been held in previous years, have not been confirmed at this time.
It’s possible one may not take place this year.
