Hijinx nets charges

On Feb. 11, Rainy River District OPP officers investigated a “Neknomination” video being posted to a social networking site involving youth.
The activities recorded in the video involved several youth participating in dangerous activities and contravening numerous provincial offences, including the Liquor Licence Act and Motorized Snow Vehicles Act.

As a result of the police investigation, two male youths were charged.
One male was charged with failing to wear a helmet and improper tow attachment.
The second male was charged with consuming alcohol as a minor and failing to wear a helmet.
In delivering a proactive message of safety and injury prevention, the OPP has consulted with several community partners which focus on youth engagement, including the Rainy River District Board of Education.
Officers are continuing to encourage parents to speak to their children about the dangers of alcohol consumption and high-risk behaviour.
Officers attended Atikokan High School today to speak to students and teachers about this current trend, as well as offer information and encouragement to students on how to make safe decisions and reduce risky behaviour.
