Muskies battle Saints

These were not the same old St. Thomas Aquinas Saints.
The Kenora squad was outshot 68-12 but put a serious scare into the visiting Muskie girls’ hockey team last night before finally succumbing 5-3.

A win is not always just a win, though, even if it did bump Fort High’s record to 13-0 in NorWOSSA action.
Thanks to the heroic play of goalie Gilly Derouard, the Saints actually led 3-2 entering the final period—the first time all season the black-and-gold have trailed after 40 minutes.
The upset was averted, though, thanks to a pair of goals by Muskie captain Shelby Tymkin and one from linemate Katie Sinclair.
Tymkin finished the night with a hat trick, with Jessica Coran netting the other Muskie goal.
Calie Clendenning earned the win in goal with a nine-save effort while Derouard turned aside a staggering 63 shots in defeat.
Fort High next hosts the Dryden Eagles tonight at 7 p.m. at the ’52 Canadians Arena.
The Muskie boys, meanwhile, close out their regular-season home schedule versus the Eagles at 7:15 p.m. at the Ice For Kids Arena.
