FORT FRANCES—Trying to get the fundraising ball rolling again for itself and other groups in the wake of the Fort Frances Bingo Hall’s closure, the Fort Frances Volunteer Bureau reported its first bingo Tuesday night was a bonafide success.
“We actually made almost as much money last night [Tuesday] as we had in the last three months at the Fort France Bingo Hall,” Bev Kotnik, past president of the Fort Frances Bingo Association and a director on the Fort Frances Volunteer Bureau board, said Wednesday.
The bingo raised $350, plus revenue from the canteen.
Kotnik noted the inaugural bingo at the old CN station didn’t draw a full house, but those who did come out to play had a good time.
“Everybody there had a relaxing evening. They really enjoyed it, they said,” she remarked. “It was fun and affordable.
“We’ve got room to grow, and we’re gonna,” Kotnik enthused. “The people there said they’re going to tell they’re friends.
“If they come back and bring friends with them next week, we’re laughing.”
Bingos will run every Tuesday starting at 6:30 p.m. at the Volunteer Bureau.
Revenues from the Tuesday night bingos will go to the Volunteer Bureau, which gets most of its funds from this type of fundraising.
When other non-profit groups come on board and start hosting weekly bingos at the Volunteer Bureau, they will run Wednesdays and Saturdays.
Eventually, other groups may want to host their own bingos at other locations.
