Lorne Jackson has been eliminated from contention for a berth at the Tim Hortons Brier next month in Hamilton.
The Fort Frances skip—along with third Don DeBenedet, second Derek Jackson and lead Mike Kjerulf—lost 7-2 to Jamie Morphet (Sudbury) this morning at the Northern Ontario playdowns there.
With the loss, Jackson’s record fell to 2-5—mathematically eliminating him from qualifying for the playoff round.
Jackson’s hopes for a playoff berth were still alive prior to this morning’s game after he earned a split in his two draws yesterday.
The day did not start well for Jackson as Tim Phillips (Sudbury) rallied from a 3-1 deficit to earn the eventual 7-3 win in the afternoon.
Phillips scored three in the fourth, a single in the fifth, and a pair of deuces in the seventh and 10th ends to get the win and put Jackson on the brink of elimination with four losses.
Then facing a must-win game last night, Jackson delivered with a thrilling 10-8 come-from-behind win over Rob Gordon (Cobalt-Haileybury).
Trailing Gordon 8-7 heading into the 10th end, Jackson managed to score three to pull out the improbably victory.
The Jackson rink was to wrap up round-robin play against Brian Fawcett (Englehart) this afternoon.
