Repeating history

Dear editor:

I am writing in response to the bylaws Dr. Sarsfield has forced on our district. I would like to point out a few facts.

First off, all the known research done on second-hand smoke has been paid for and researched by anti-smoking lobbyists. This research is biased. Not once has an objective third party looked at this issue.

Secondly, the government has not banned smoking. It is still collecting billions of dollars in taxes from smokers.

I feel that Dr. Sarsfield is using Rainy River District as a stepping stone for his political career. His drive to put small business owners out of business—and make the average person who smokes a criminal—is outrageous.

In the ’20s, prohibition of alcohol did not work. It will not work now. Don’t let history repeat itself.
