Alliance widens lead

On a night when four teams couldn’t play, and their closest pursuer was held pointless, Alliance reasserted itself as the team to beat in the Fort Frances Women’s Volleyball League.
As the only team to gain the maximum six points in its two matches in the final night of action before the Christmas break last Thursday, Alliance now has 51 points to put some distance between itself and the rest of the pack.

By The Balls had entered the night in second place—trailing the leaders by only one point.
But in a total surprise, the squad was blanked for the first time this season to fall to third place with 44 points, seven behind Alliance.
Gillons’ Cougars took advantage of the sub-par performance, vaulting into second place (47 points) with a three-point night last Thursday.
Scared Hitless stayed fourth at 43 after also picking up three points.
Kiss My Pass (38) and Notorious D.I.G. (33) both held steady in fifth and sixth, respectively, as two of the four teams unable to play due to St. Michael’s School being unavailable that evening.
Defending champ Dig This, meanwhile, struggled to collect just one point last Thursday to remain in seventh (29).
Bump It Up and Ball Busters each racked up five points to both move within a point of Dig This in an eighth-place tie (28).
SMASH did not get to take the floor and remained 10th with 16 points, as was the case for I’d Hit That, who stayed 11th (15).
Kiss My Ace was blanked for the third-straight week—and ninth time this season—to remain in the league basement with three points.
The games not played at St. Michael’s last Thursday will be made up later in the season.
The league begins second-half action Jan. 9, with games set to begin at 7 p.m. at Fort High and St. Michael’s.
