The pilot of a float plane that crashed yesterday afternoon on Prospect Bay of Rainy Lake suffered only minor injuries, Fort Frances OPP reported this morning.
Trevor Lorteau, 32, of Sioux Lookout was approaching Lakeland Aviation around 3:15 p.m. when he encountered power lines, police said.
The Beech Craft model 18D plane became entangled in the top line, causing the aircraft to spiral towards the water, police added.
The pilot escaped the sinking plane and received minor cuts and bruises, police reported. He was treated at La Verendrye hospital and released.
The aircraft—submerged in eight feet of water—will be removed pending the conclusion of the investigation by Emo OPP.
Prospect Bay is located on the North Arm of Rainy Lake, about 14 km east of Fort Frances.
