The Township of Atikokan will receive $18,000 from FedNor to update its 1994 downtown renewal study, Thunder Bay-Rainy River MP Ken Boshcoff announced last week.
Updating the existing study will provide the Township of Atikokan with a strategic blueprint and estimation of costs, which will allow for implementation of downtown re-development as funds become available.
“Downtown redevelopment is crucial to the tourism industry in Atikokan,” said Boshcoff.
“This study will identify new ways to position the town as the Canoeing Capital of Canada and to capitalize on opportunities for increased tourist services,” he added.
Boshcoff made the announcement on behalf of Joe Comuzzi, minister of state for FedNor.
