Lakers snap skid

The Fort Frances Lakers are back on track.
The local Junior ‘A’ squad snapped their two-game mini-skid with a 5-3 win over the Thunder Bay North Stars last night at the Fort William Gardens.

That victory, which improved the Lakers’ record to 35-17-1-2, also meant the playoff match-ups for the opening rounds of the post-season are now set in stone.
The second-place Lakers will meet the third-place Dryden Ice Dogs in one semi-final showdown.
The other semi-final will see the defending SIJHL champion Minnesota Wilderness, who topped the regular-season standings, take on the winner of a best-of-three affair between the North Stars and Minnesota Iron Rangers.
The dates for the playoffs will be announced following the completion of the regular season tomorrow night.
Forward Payton Ruter led the Lakers last night, netting a pair of first-period goals to give his team the early advantage.
Miles Nolan, Colton Spicer, and Tyler Broderson also scored while Tanner Hamilton made 23 saves in first start since late January.
Adam Restoule had two goals and an assist to pace the North Stars.
Both sides will wrap up their regular seasons tomorrow night in Thunder Bay.
