Food security focus of talk
Tuesday, 12 March 2013 - 1:31pm
Food security is the notion that food a basic human right—the idea that everyone has the right to access enough safe, nutritious, and culturally-appropriate food in a way that promotes self-reliance and social justice.
Food security is not just a poverty issue; it is a much larger one that involves the whole food system and affects everyone in one way or another.
Next Tuesday’s gathering is a good chance for anyone interested in increasing access to food in Rainy River District—including health promoters, health educators, community heath reps, local food enthusiasts, producers, or farmers—to come together to learn about the root issues and what can be done.
Everyone is invited to the gathering to share ideas and take action on increasing food security in Rainy River District.
To attend, you must contact Siobhan Booth by this Friday (March 15) at 482-2211 or via e-mail at sbooth@nwhu.on.ca
The event is free, with lunch being sponsored by the Northwest Training and Adjustment Board.
An inaugural food security gathering was held in Emo last March 8.
