‘Family Day’ events slated

Children and adults in Fort Frances will have a few activities to look forward to on “Family Day” (Feb. 18).
A family skate will be held Monday from 9:45 a.m.-3:15 p.m. at the Memorial Sports Centre while a family swim will take place there from 1:15-3:30 p.m.

A parent or guardian must accompany children on the ice or in the water.
Only immediate family members are allowed, and one adult for every two children.
Meanwhile, Science North is bringing its “Indoor Planetarium” to the Fort Frances Public Library Technology Centre on Monday.
There will be six shows times, with each running 20 minutes in length.
Tickets cost $2/person, which should be picked up in advance to ensure your spot.
The library will be open from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. on Family Day.
Out in the district, Family Day events are slated from 1-4 p.m. at the Emo-La Vallee Community Centre.
A family skate will take place from 1-3 p.m., followed by shinny hockey and skating games from 3-4 p.m. (helmets and gloves are mandatory).
Meanwhile, movies and games will take place throughout the event.
These events are free and everyone is welcome to attend.
And in Rainy River, the Rainy River Recreation Centre and the curling club will be hosting activities free of charge on Monday.
At 10 a.m., there will be a family photo scavenger hunt at the rec centre.
Teams (which need to be a minimum of one parent and one child) register at the centre and then receive a list of photos they need to find.
The first team back with all the photos on the list, or the team with the most photos by noon, wins a $25 gift certificate to the Roadside Restaurant.
Each team is required to bring a digital camera or a cellphone camera.
Families can curl at the Rainy River Curling Club starting at noon, at which time family games and crafts also will take place on the upper floor of the rec centre.
There will be an hour of free skating at the arena from 2-3 p.m., followed by an hour of free ice time for some pick-up hockey (3-4 p.m.)
Anyone who wishes to play can come out and get a game going.
The rec centre canteen also will be open all day Monday, with free hotdogs and hot chocolate for all participants.
