Earl McPherson, of Lamont, Alta., passed away peacefully on Monday, Nov. 4, 2013 at the age of 76.
Earl was born April 6, 1937 and raised on Couchiching First Nation. He moved to Alberta in 1974.
Earl served his country as a member of the Canadian Armed Forces, stationed in Germany. Earl also enjoyed various occupations in the pulp and paper industry, was a hunting and fishing guide, and heavy equipment operator in the oil industry.
He retired in 1994.
He held a great passion for golf, playing for years into his retirement and making many friendships along the way.
Earl was devoted to his family, and had a way of making each one feel very special and loved.
Earl is survived by his niece, Shermalynn Kuusela and her husband, Bruce Riggs, of Tofield Alta., who nursed him through his illness; his children, Lori Elsner of Hibbing, Mn., Sonya (Al) Matson of Thunder Bay, Ont., Wendy Jo Dickson (Eldon) of Edmonton Alta., and Michael (Julie) McPherson of Fort McMurray Alta; 13 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
He also is survived by his brothers, Archie of Lamont, Alta. and Dennis (Tracey) of Thunder Bay, Ont.; sister-in-law, Patricia McPherson of Fort Frances, Ont.; and many nieces and nephews.
Earl was predeceased by his wife, Lois, and second wife, Margaret; son, Wade, and daughter, Lynn; parents, George (Elzor) and Mary McPherson; brothers, Rudolph, Leo, and Arnold; and sisters, Margorie Morrisseau, Amelia Bruyere, Ethel Kenny, Edna Lockhart, and Phyllis Jameus.
Funeral services will be held Friday, Nov. 15, 2013 at 11 a.m. at Our Lady of Lourdes Church at Couchiching.
