Shawna Pynten (nee Pruys)

September 30, 1974 – October 15, 2012

Shawna passed away peacefully at Carewest Sarcee Hospice in Calgary, Alberta at the age of
38 years after a lengthy but courageous battle with cancer.  Shawna will be lovingly remembered by her husband Will, daughter Alexis, parents Willie and Linda Pruys, brother Derrick, sister-in-law Krista, niece Grace, grandparents Ross & Francise Anderson as well as many uncles, aunts, cousins and friends.  Shawna was predeceased by her grandparents Frans and Marie Pruys, cousins Nikki Pruys and Amanda Marchuk.    Shawna was first diagnosed with cancer in 1987 when she was 12 years old; she was cancer free for 15 years and then 10 years ago the cancer returned.   Shawna fought her battle with courage, determination, a positive attitude, dignity and grace and was an inspiration to all who knew and loved her.  She always looked at the positive side of everything; any obstacle she encountered she faced head-on.   She had more determination and optimism than most of us will ever dream of having.
The warmth of her smile, her wonderful laugh and her ability to accept people for who they are is a true testament of a life filled with God’s spirit.  Maybe that is why she made friends so easily.    Shawna was born in Fort Frances, attended school in Devlin and Fort Frances; she graduated from Fort Frances High School and went on to complete a Bachelor of Science in Physical Therapy at Queen’s University in 1997.   Shawna excelled in and loved her chosen career as a physical therapist.  Shawna, Will and Alexis enjoyed travelling whether it was to visit family and friends, cruise the Mediterranean or simply enjoy the sights close to home.  She lived her life to the fullest; her soft spoken voice and her beautiful smile will be etched in our hearts forever.

A Celebration of Life was held at the Bow Valley Christian Church
on Saturday, October 20th, 2012  in Calgary, Alberta.

There will be a Mass on Sunday, November 4th at 11:00 a.m.

“A daughter is a miracle with angel smiles to share.

A sweet and lasting dream-come-true,

A gently whispered prayer.

A blessing to her family from heaven up above,

A beautiful reminder of God’s goodness and His love.

You’re more than just a daughter;
you’re an angel in disguise.”

Love:  Mom & Dad
