The family of Albert James Van Drunen, of Dance Township, Ont., sadly announces his passing on Sunday, Sept. 23, 2012 at the Emo Health Centre in Emo, Ont.

Bert was born Jan. 30, 1929 in Emo Townhip to Grace and Peter Van Drunen.

As most people know, Bert worked in the bush for many years. He then went west and did security and also private investigation work. When he returned from the west, he started gardening and was well-known for his vegetables and plants.

Bert also was involved with the Dance community for many years by way of helping with suppers at the Dance Hall and also for the Statute of Labour Board (now the Local Roads Board).

He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

Bert is survived by his three sons, Jim (Yvonne) of Dance Township, Kevin (Dianne) of Regina, Sask., and Michael (Sheila) of Langley, B.C.; grandchildren, Deidra, Deanne, Kyle, Derek, Jaclyn, Nathaniel, and Kathryn; and two great-grandchildren, Alyssa and Savannah.

He also is survived by his brothers, Bob (Phyllis) and Ben (Connie); sister, Lois; sisters-in-law, Sophie Van Drunen and Christine (Gordon Busch); and numerous nieces and nephews.

Bert was predeceased by his parents, Grace and Peter; daughter, Joan Reay; and brothers, Neil and Tom.

Family and friends will be received on Thursday Sept. 27, 2012 from 7-9 p.m. at the Northridge Funeral Home in Emo.

A graveside service will be held Friday, Sept. 28, 2012 at 11 a.m. at the Burriss Cemetery, with a reception to follow at the Royal Canadian Legion in Emo.
