We regret to announce the passing of Gerald Myron Ness on Thursday, Sept. 13, 2012.

He was born and raised in International Falls. At age 19, he joined the Navy as a gunners mate and served four years in Vietnam.

Jerry was well known locally as an accomplished singer and guitar player, and won numerous awards throughout the years.

He lived in Winnipeg with his family in the mid-80s where he also became well known as an entertainer.

Jerry was selected as winner of the Manitoba Country Search for Talent and went on to compete and again win at the Canadian Country Music Search for Talent Contest in Edmonton.

Throughout his career he performed as a solo act as well as a member of a dozen different bands.

Everyone remembers a good night at the Border Bar with Jerry and Pat.

Jerry enjoyed working around the home making improvements and taking impromptu road trips with his family throughout Canada and the US where he could always pick up a few gigs along the way.

Jerry enjoyed fishing and camping with his family, that included his daughters, Becky and Tanya, and often numerous nieces and nephews, Patrick, Chad, Paige, Kati, Cody and Terry. The family pets also joined them on many camping adventures as he was a lover of animals.

Jerry leaves behind numerous grandchildren, including Hailey and Michael Sobkowicz; Bailey and Cole Fish; Logan Phillips; Diane LaVoy; and Alaina Gates of International Falls.

Jerry also leaves behind two daughters, Becky Mainville and Tanya Wilson (Mark), and grandchildren, Danni Mae Mainville, Chase Flinders, and Josie Belle Wilson of Fort Frances.

A memorial service will be held on Monday, Sept. 17 at 1 p.m. in International Falls at Green-Larsen Mortuary Memorial Chapel on 4th Street.
