RICHARD McMILLEN

It is with great sorrow we announce the passing of Richard McMillen on Tuesday, Aug. 28, 2012 at the age of 79.

Richard was born Sept. 4, 1932 in Fort Frances, Ont. to Russell and Margaret McMillen. He spent most of his life around Mine Centre and Atikokan, Ont.

After leaving school in Mine Centre, he went to work in the bush in Mine Centre and the Sapawe area. He worked as a mechanic at British garage in Atikokan, McVeys in Fort Frances, and then back to Atikokan to work in Steep Rock Mine.

Richard started working at the township garage in 1965, where he remained until retirement.

He enjoyed hunting and fishing, and spending summers at our cabin on Little Turtle Lake at Mine Centre.

When at home, he always was busy working on someone’s motor, lawn mower, chain saw, or whatever his friends dropped off in his garage.

He is survived by his wife, Carol (Parr), whom he married in Atikokan on May 17, 1958; daughter, Wanda and husband, Greg; son, Darcy and partner, Margaret; son, Tracy and wife, Belen; grandchildren, Darcia, Shannon, Joanne, Jessica, Tracy, and Mitchell; and great-granddaughter, Savanna.

Also surviving are his sister, Bonnie and husband, Carl; brother, Ronnie and wife, Meryl; and many nieces and nephews.

Richard was predeceased by his mother, father, and brothers, Wayne, Arthur, Bobby, and Donny McMillen.

A memorial service was held Saturday, Sept. 8, 2012 at 1 p.m. at the Riverview United Church in Atikokan.

If friends so desire, in memoriam donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or the Atikokan General Hospital.
