CECIL WILSON

Cecil Wilson, 89, of Barwick, Ont., passed away peacefully, with family by his side, on Friday, July 27, 2012 at the Emo Health Centre in Emo, Ont.

He was born Sept. 27, 1922 in Emo to Bill and Cora Wilson (nee Thompson).

Cecil grew up in Barwick among family and friends, played sports (mostly baseball), attended school, and worked for various retailers in the area, including Blacks and Gills.

He enlisted in the army in 1942 and was discharged in 1944.

He met his future bride, Shirley Alexander, in the fall of 1944. They were married on Sept. 11, 1946.

After a few years in Barwick, they moved on to Dryden, Ont., where both of their children were born, and then relocated in Fort Frances, Ont., finally returning to Cecil’s hometown of Barwick in 1958 to set down some roots with their young family.

Cecil became very involved in his community, working as municipal clerk/treasurer from 1960-74 and then was elected as reeve of Chapple from 1991 until his retirement from that post in 2002.

During these years, Cecil became an integral part of a multitude of local and district-wide committees and boards, and worked tirelessly for the betterment of the communities he represented.

Besides his other commitments, Cecil maintained—and never failed to demonstrate—his deep love for his family and extended family.

His hobbies, which included hunting, gardening, and wood-cutting, reflected the great satisfaction he took in being as self-sufficient as possible.

Cecil was predeceased by his parents, Bill and Cora; brother, John; two sisters, Olive (Moore/Johnson) and Isabel (Harasymyk); grandson, Cameron Wilson; and several in-laws, nieces, and nephews.

He is survived by his wife of nearly 66 years, Shirley, of Barwick, Ont.; son, Greg and wife, Joy, of Rainy River, Ont.; and son, Ken, of Barwick, Ont.

He also is survived by six grandchildren, Josh Wilson, Deidre Wilson, Tracy Brown (Jeff), Vaughan Wilson, Laura McCormick (Adam), and Trisha Wilson (Storm Carroll); great-grandchildren, Brandon Pratt, Hunter Brown, Logan Brown, Ryder Brown, and Layne McCormick; and numerous extended family whom he dearly loved.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, Aug. 2, 2012 at 11 a.m. at the Northridge Funeral Home in Emo, with Doug Barron officiating.

Interment will follow at the Chapple Cemetery.

A luncheon will be served at the Chapple Community Hall.

The pallbearers will be Vaughan Wilson, Brandon Pratt, George Oltsher, Bill Clink, Stewart Gill, and Randy Both.

If desired, in memoriam donations may be made to the Chapple Recreation or charity of your choice c/o Northridge Funeral Home, P.O. Box 89, Emo, Ont., P0W 1E0.
