Sadly, on Sunday, June 17, 2012 at St. Boniface Hospital in Winnipeg, Man., Patrick Douglas Tom (“Teet”) of Big Grassy First Nation, Ont. passed away at the age of 51.
Patrick was born May 14, 1961 to Moses and Bessie Tom. He grew up in Big Grassy First Nation.
He lived in Minnesota for many years working as a carpenter. In 2007, Patrick returned to Big Grassy First Nation to live and work until his passing.
He will greatly missed by his mother, Bessie Tom; siblings, Roy (Jane) Tom, Annie Tom (James Eastman), Abigail (Brian) Halverson, and Wynter and P.J. Tom, all of Big Grassy First Nation, Ont., Colin Tom of Thunder Bay, Ont., Niki Gee of Winnipeg, Man., Naomi Braxton of Chicago, Ill., and Ronald Ewhault of Wasaga Beach, Ont.
Patrick also is survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and their families.
He was predeceased by his father, Moses; sister, Pauline Big George; and brother, John Ewhault.
A traditional wake will be held Wednesday, June 20, 2012 from 4 p.m. at the Big Grassy First Nation Community Hall.
A traditional service will follow at the hall on Thursday, June 21, 2012 at 10 a.m., with elder Lester Howse officiating.
Interment will take place in Big Grassy First Nation Cemetery.
The pallbearers will be Marvin Tom, Terry Tom, Gary Tom, Francis Kavanaugh, Tim Morrison, and Pwan Stanford Tom.
The honourary pallbearers will be Brian Halverson, Brian Hook, Jesse Tom, Travis Tom, Beemus Goodsky, and James Eastman.
