Suddenly, as a result of an accident, Matthew James Frederick Boven, 20, of Emo, Ont., entered Heaven into the presence of His Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ.
Matthew was born March 6, 1992 in Fort Frances, Ont. to Harrold and Gertie Boven.
He attended the Sturgeon Creek Alternative Program in Stratton, Ont. for Kindergarten-Grade 10 and then graduated from Grade 12 at Fort Frances High School in Fort Frances. Matthew attended Fanshawe College this past year, enrolled in the Police Foundations program, with plans to complete the course in the coming year and then continuing future studies in social work (“so I can help people”).
Matthew had a great love for all sports, especially football and hockey. He played minor hockey in Emo for a number of years, along with men’s league hockey recently. One of his highlights in high school was being a part of the Muskie football team. He was so excited to be part of the team and gave it his all.
Lately, Matt enjoyed playing slo-pitch in Devlin and refereeing youth soccer in Emo.
He was a loyal Toronto Maple Leaf fan and was a huge NFL football fan, cheering for his beloved New England Patriots.
Matthew will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by his parents, Harrold and Gertie Boven of Emo, Ont.; his siblings, Alicia Boven of Edmonton, Alta., and Joshua and Nicole Boven, both of Emo, Ont.; and his grandparents, Fred (Alice) Postma of Chatham, Ont. and Anne Boven of Kitchener, Ont.
He also is survived by aunts, uncles, and cousins—Marvin and Linda (Lydia and Ryan, Kristen and Phil, Michelle and Kyle, Erik, and Justin), Henrietta and Rudy (Anneke, Cor, Johanna, Rebekah, Victoria, and Jacob), Joanne and Don (Peter, Stephan, and Nathan), Rick and Lil (Trevor, Matt called him his other brother, and Spencer), Dave and Arlene (Mitch, Sarah, and Lauren), Cindy and Doyle (Maddison and Riley), Al and Keri (Nathan and Jessica)—and extended family.
Matthew was predeceased by his Opa, Jacob Boven(2003); cousin, Alison (2008); and a special great uncle, Peter (2011).
Family and friends were received Sunday, June 10, 2012 from 7-9 p.m. at the Northridge Funeral Home in Emo.
Funeral services were held Monday, June 11, 2012 at 2 p.m. at the Christian Reformed Church in Emo, with Pastor John Vanderburgh officiating.
Interment took place in Emo Cemetery.
The pallbearers were Josh Boven, TJ Marinaro, Trevor Postma, Spencer Postma, Erik Boven, and Justin Boven.
The honourary pallbearers were all of Matt’s other cousins and special friends he knew.
