EDNA FLORENCE WATTS

Florence Watts (nee Lundy) passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 15, 2012 at La Verendrye Hospital in Fort Frances, Ont. at age 89.

Florence was born Sept. 10, 1922 to Forrest and Edna Lundy in Carpenter Township, Ont.

She attended school in Emo and high school in Fort Frances, after which Florence moved to Toronto, Ont. to work during the war.

Florence was united in marriage to John Watts in the spring of 1946. They resided in Shenston Township, Ont. and had two girls, Elaine and Dianne.

For a short time, the family moved out west but came back to Shenston Township and later settled in Stratton, Ont. Florence lived in Stratton until December, 2011, when she moved to Rainycrest in Fort Frances.

Florence worked at various jobs, including the telephone office and the post office in Stratton. She also worked several years for Miley Gaudry as a waitress, and later along with Karen Olson opened the Stratton O-n-W Drive-In, which they operated for five seasons.

She loved curling, baseball, the Stratton dances, gardening, and playing cards. Florence also was a lifetime member of Stratton United Church and the Stratton United Church Women.

She also will be fondly remembered for her poetry, having had many of her poems published.

She had a great admiration for the nursing staff at the Dialysis Unit in Fort Frances and her trusted driver, Larry Allen, who drove her to her appointments. Florence had made more than 1,000 trips for dialysis treatment.

Florence will be lovingly remembered by her daughters, Elaine Advent of Sioux Lookout, Ont. and Dianne (Glenn) Stafford of Stratton, Ont.; grandchildren, Carla (Manny) Goulart, JoLayne Advent, Peter Stafford, Paul Stafford, Terri (Shawn) Retzler, and Jenni (Buck) Morrison; and great-grandchildren, Sidney, Natasha, Alexia, Brendon, Ashlyn, Evan, and Scarlett.

Florence also is survived by her sister, Shirley (Ernie) Peters; brother-in-law, Gerald Seed; sisterd-in-law, Norma Lundy and Pat Lundy; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her parents, Edna and Forrest Lundy; husband; John Watts; and siblings, F.H. Lundy, Gary Lundy, Frank Lundy, Cleland Lundy, Jack Lundy and wife Ester, Azela and husband Bill McQuaker, Aleta and husband John McRae, Arlene and husband Art Watts, and Iola Seed.

A memorial service will be held Friday April 20, 2012 at 1p.m. at Northridge Funeral Home in Emo, Ont., with Rev. Barbara Miller officiating.

Interment will take place in Stratton Cemetery.

The honourary pallbearers will be Larry Allen, Shelley McDonald, Irene Olson, Rhonda Ruymar, Mary Ann Vandenbrand, and Pat White.
