Rita Byma, 86, of Emo, Ont., went to be with her Lord and Saviour early Easter Sunday morning, April 8, 2012, at La Verendrye Hospital in Fort Frances, Ont. with her family by her side.
Rita was born June 17, 1925 in The Netherlands to Louis and Antje Roersma.
She was united in marriage to Charles Byma on June 18, 1947. They immigrated to Canada along with their daughter, Ann, in 1948, settling in Manitoba.
They moved to Rainy River District in 1952, purchasing a farm on Ducharme Road in Crozier, where they remained until retirement.
Rita had a great love for knitting and baking, and was a valued member of the Christian Reformed Church.
She will be lovingly remembered by her husband, Charles; and her children, Ann Breukelman of Abbotsford, B.C., Sidney (Marie Claire) of Edmonton, Alta., Louis (Darlene) of Fort Frances, Ont., Betty (Harm) Hazeu of Winnipeg, Man., Jim (Cheryle) of Stony Plain, Man., Daniel (Rose) of Chestermere, Alta., and Elizabeth (George) Gercama of Winnipeg, Man.
She also will be greatly missed be her 18 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren.
Rita also is survived by her three brothers, Wilbert (Sadie), Ted (Grace), and John; and well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Rita was predeceased by her parents, Louis and Antje Roersma; granddaughter, Nancy Breukelman; son-in-law, Albert Breukelman; and two sisters, Itske Wiersma and Klaske Smid.
Visitation will be held Thursday, April 12, 2012 from 7-9 p.m. at the Northridge Funeral Home in Emo, Ont.
Funeral service will be held Friday, April 13, 2012 at 2:30 p.m. at the Christian Reformed Church in Emo, with Pastor John Vanderburgh officiating.
The pallbearers will be her grandsons, Ron Breukelman, Brian Byma, Mike Byma, Scott Hazeu, Chris Hazeu, and Matt Hazeu.
Interment will take place in Emo Cemetery.
