It is with heavy hearts that the family of Harold “Harco” Raymond Christiansen announces his passing on Sunday, April 8, 2012 at La Verendrye General Hospital in Fort Frances, Ont.
Harold was born Nov. 2, 1929 in Fort Frances to John and Anna Christiansen. He was raised in Fort Frances, where he worked at Green’s Furniture Store and then at the O&M pulp and paper mill until his retirement in 1987.
He was united in marriage to Gurlie Odahl on Sept. 20, 1952.
Duff loved coaching hockey and was an active member of the Royal Canadian Legion Br. #29. He and Gurlie also travelled extensively across North America and Europe, spending winters in Florida and summers at their cabin.
His grandchildren and great-grandchildren were the lights of his life. He cherished every moment he had with them.
Harold was predeceased by his wife, Gurlie; granddaughter, Kristen Ellen McKinnon; siblings, Hank (Ingrid), Inga (Eric) Pearson, George (Margaret), Alphild Christiansen, Edith (Albert) Berg, Robert (Irene), and Donna Little; sisters-in-law, Florence and Nettie Christiansen; brother-in-law Oswald Odahl; and nephew, Brad Odahl.
He leaves behind his son, David; daughter, Ellen McKinnon; grandsons, Mike (Joanne) McKinnon and Tyler (Sara) Christiansen; great-grandchildren, Joelle and Gage McKinnon; brothers, Walter and John Christiansen; sister, Nancy Lavigne; sister-in-law, Carolyn (Ed) Taylor; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held Thursday, April 12, 2012 at 2 p.m. at the Zion Lutheran Church in Fort Frances, with a luncheon to follow at the Royal Canadian legion Br. #29.
Cremation has taken place, with inurnment in the La Verendrye Columbarium in Fort Frances.
