Muskie girls fall

The Muskie girls’ hockey team suffered its second-straight NorWOSSA loss after falling 5-3 to the host Dryden Eagles last night.
Shelby Tymkin, Shilo Beck, and Shelby Rae scored for the black-and-gold, who dropped to 2-2 in league play.

Morgan Church and Rachel Getson each netted a pair of goals for the Eagles, with Liv Carter adding one.
The Muskies will return to action Tuesday night with an exhibition game against the International Falls Broncos at Bronco Arena.
Then they’ll be back at the Ice For Kids Arena next Wednesday at 7:15 p.m. to take on the St. Thomas Aquinas Saints (Kenora) in NorWOSSA action.
Prior to that, the team will hold its annual tea and bake sale tomorrow from noon-2 p.m. at the Fort High cafeteria.
In other Muskie news, the boys’ hockey team kicked off the annual Victoria Inn High School Hockey Tournament in Brandon, Man. on a winning note yesterday, blanking Morden 3-0.
A total of 24 teams are competing in the tourney, which runs through Sunday.
Meanwhile, the Fort High senior boys’ basketball team opened the 34th-annual “Tiger Tip-Off” tournament in Thunder Bay with a 74-36 win over the Superior Gryphons yesterday before the event was cancelled abruptly last night.
No official word has been given yet on why the tournament, which is hosted by Westgate Collegiate & Vocational Institute, was cancelled.
Tournament organizers only would say it was not their decision and that government sanctions were not a factor.
The Muskies were to have played the host Tigers in the semi-finals today.
