Holiday concert planned

The Borderland Community Orchestra is celebrating the start of its 13th season with a holiday concert this Sunday (Dec. 2) at 2 p.m. at the Backus Community Center in International Falls.
The orchestra was created 13 years ago under the direction of Katherine Williams of Emo.

It began as a group of about 30 musicians and has since grown to a full orchestra of more than 50 members—strings, woodwinds, brass, and percussion.
Orchestra members are from both sides of the border, from International Falls to Baudette and Williams and Fort Frances to Emo and Rainy River.
Rehearsals are held weekly at Donald Young School in Emo, with several concerts presented in the area each season.
This year’s holiday concert will feature Christmas/holiday music, both popular and sacred.
Some selections included in the program are “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas,” “Sleigh Ride,” “Do You Hear What I Hear?” “Carol of the Bells,” “A Christmas Festival,” and “Stille Nacht.”
The concert will conclude with the “Hallelujah Chorus” from Handel’s “Messiah.”
Audience members will be invited to sing along and those who have music are requested to bring their copy.
Admission is $10 for adults and $5 for students, with kids five and under admitted free.
Tickets available at the door.
