The family of Mary Williams is sad to announce the passing of their mother and grandmother, who peacefully slipped away, with family at her side, on Thursday, March 22, 2012 at La Verendrye Hospital in Fort Frances, Ont. at age 75.

Mary was born Tuesday, Jan. 19, 1937 in Newcastle, England and married John Williams of Dunston, England on July 20, 1957.

After the birth of their three children, the family spent a year in Africa before moving to Atikokan, Ont. in 1973 and then to Fort Frances in 1982.

All who knew Mary loved her for her feisty and unpretentious character. Her love to dance with husband, John, and, in later years, with her special friends brought much joy and happiness to her life.

She enjoyed Bingo, bowling, volunteering with Special Olympics, and working various jobs amongst the public, but enjoyed nothing more than her children and grandchildren.

Mary was predeceased by her husband, John; parents, George and Eleanor; and sister, Doreen.

She is survived by her children, John and Dianne Williams, and Alan & Annette Williams, and Carol and Don McDermid; grandchildren, Mindy (fiancé, Naman), Tyler, and Erin Williams, and Morgan, Hannah, and Sarah McDermid; very special niece, Gillian Gallagher and family, Peter, Meghan, and Laura, of Norwich, England; as well as numerous relatives throughout England.

As per their mother’s wishes, the family will not be holding a public service and have held a private family ceremony.

Friends are invited to view a memorial slide show honouring Mary and sign the guest book at

In lieu of flowers, in memoriam donations may been made to the Fort Frances Community Chest, La Verendrye Hospital, or the Canadian Cancer Society c/o Green Funeral Home, P.O. Box 427, Fort Frances, Ont., P9A 3M8.
