Gordon C. Peters, of Finland, Ont., passed away unexpectedly in his home on Friday, Jan. 27, 2012 at the age of 75.
Gordon was born April 2, 1936 in Blue Township, Ont. to Walter and Winifred Peters.
He started working in the bush at an early age and hauled pulpwood to Fort Frances. He was very proud of owning his own truck at the age of 17.
Gordon then moved to Atikokan, Ont. in his early 20s to work in the mine.
During his lifetime, he had many businesses, such as a lumber yard, taxi stand, rental houses, laundromat, and sheep farming.
Gordon is survived by his longtime loving companion, Catherine Webb; his daughters, Laurel (Glenn) Johnson of Princeton, B.C. and Debbie (David St. Lawrence) of Thunder Bay, Ont.; his sons, Gordon (Patty) Peters of Pemberton, B.C. and Keith (Jolene) Peters of Atikokan, Ont.; and his former spouse, Bonnie Pemberton of Princeton, B.C.
Also surviving his extended family, Suzanne (Ben) Strom of Calgary, Alta., Barbara (Mike) Webb of Calgary, Alta., Thomas (Sue) Lampi of South Korea, and Vernon Strom of Atikokan, Ont.
He also will be sadly missed by his grandchildren, Mary-Ann, Susan-Rae, Richard, Michael, Isobel, Eric, Kassandra, Cadence, Jasmin, Phoebe, Nathan, William, and Vicki; and his great-grandchildren, Lukas, John, Amelia, Gage, and Kazmeir.
Gordon also is survived by his siblings, Willard (Enid) Peters of Rainy River, Ont., Phillip (Rosella) Peters of Red Deer, Alta., and Alvin (Leslie) Peters of Winnipeg, Man.; his mother-in-law, Hazel Pietila of Pemberton, B.C.; and numerous in-laws, nieces, and nephews.
Gordon was predeceased by his parents, Walter and Winifred Peters; sister, Edith Tarling; and father-in-law, William Pietila.
A memorial service will be held Friday, Feb. 3, 2012 at 1 p.m. at the Off Lake Covenant Church in Finland, with Pastor Joe Orr officiating.
Interment will take place in Forest Lawn Cemetery in Rainy River, Ont. at a later date.
