It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Allen Odell Peterson, with his family by his side, on Saturday, Dec. 10, 2011 at the age of 86.
He was born Dec. 7 1925 in Saskatchewan.
Allen enjoyed socializing with many coffee mates in the numerous restaurants in the area. He also enjoyed playing Bingo and gambling with the lotto tickets each week.
He was known to be a inventor of many different gadgets in his time with us.
Allen worked at many jobs in the area throughout his life, but what he was most proud of was his homemade well drilling machine and would, on many occasions, tell his stories of the many wells that he had drilled in Rainy River District.
In the 1970s, he also had his own taxi service based out of Barwick, Ont.
Allen served in WW2 and was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Br. #99 in Emo, Ont.
He was predeceased by the love of his life, Melvina Blackburde; and also his mother, Menervia, brothers, Merlin and Ben, and sisters, Lorraine and Lillian.
He is survived by his daughter, Noreen Marr (Greg) of Atikokan, Ont.; son, Derek Peterson of Rainy River First Nations, Ont.; daughter, Deanna Peterson of Fort Frances, Ont., and his stepchildren, Florabelle Both (Randy) of Barwick, Ont., Dwayne Blackburde of Stratton, Ont., and Leann Fredrickson (Kyle) of Winnipeg, Man.
He also is survived by 12 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, Dec. 15, 2011 at 11 a.m. at the Rainy River First Nations gym, with a luncheon to follow.
Interment will take place in Rainy River First Nations Cemetery.
The pallbearers will be Wayne Nugent, Gary Judson, David Ball, Peter Borger, Brian Cochrane, and Jamie Leonard.
The honourary pallbearers will be close friends and his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
