It is with deep sorrow that I announce the passing of my love and best friend, David Gordon Saunders, on Tuesday, Oct. 4, 2011 in his 73rd year after a brief battle with pancreatic cancer.
Loving husband of Cathy (Cuthbertson); loving father to Stuart Saunders (Kristina, Emily, and Matthew), Craig (Arlie) Saunders (CJ and Jack), Skye (Andrew) McKay (Ciel and Noah) of Brisbane, Australia, Amanda Telfer (Robert, Rowan, and Fletcher) of London, Ont., and Bryant (BJ) Telfer of Toronto, Ont., and our chosen daughter, Lori (David) Cowx (Kristina, Emily, Matthew, Molly, Nicklaus, and Lucy).
David was predeceased by his parents, Gordon and Eileen Saunders (1997) and son, Craig (2011).
David was a very proud “Poppa” to our grandchildren and newest great-grandson, Bentley.
David was a member of the Canadian Guards, Toronto Police Force, and spent 25 years with various insurance companies. His last years were with Robert Q and the London Free Press.
He will be remembered fondly by his network of militaria collectors.
David also will be remembered by his mother-in-law, Jean Hoffman; and the Cuthbertson, McCoy, and Cyr families of Fort Frances, Ont.
A celebration in honour of David’s life will take place Saturday, Oct. 22, 2011 at 2:30 p.m. at the Chalmers Presbyterian Church, 342 Pond Mills Rd., London, Ont.
In recognition of David’s passion for Canadian military history and the every-day soldiers who have served Canada so gallantly for generations, donations to the Military Historical Society of Canada, Oxford St. E., London, Ont., N5W 2Z5 (c/o Grant McKillop) would be greatly appreciated.
