Shirley M. Kroll of Grand Rapids, Mn. passed away peacefully in her sleep at St. Joe’s Hospital in Brainerd, Mn. on Aug. 23, 2011 after a courageous lengthy battle with various health issues.

Shirley was born in 1939 in Armstrong, Ont., Canada. She was raised and attended school in Canada and then later in life earned her G.E.D. followed by a two year degree in Human Services at ICC in Grand Rapids.

She had many interests including: cooking, fishing, flea market/sales, travel, reading, music, knitting, gardening, and spending time with family and friends. Her gift to gab has been shared with many, whether it would be consoling, storytelling, or just B.S.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Mary Louise Chowhan (Bowen) and Werner W.K. Blomquist.

Her immediate family includes siblings: Verna Couture (Willy) of Thunder Bay, Ont., and David Chowhan (Karen) of Fort Frances, Ont.; children: Bernard Dahlstrom (deceased), Deb Anderson of Brainerd, Mn., and Shirlee Anderson (Kevin) of Nisswa, Mn.; grandchildren, Benjamin Dahlstrom (Bernadette) of Hibbing, Mn., Jessica Schley (Joe) of Spring Lake, NC; Mandary Zell, Champlin, Mn.; and great-grandchildren, Elli Ana Dahlstrom, and Alexander Schley.

Her immediate family also includes nieces and nephews, Robert Blomquist (Donna) of Thunder Bay, Ont., Mallory Chowhan (Zak) of Winnipeg, Man., Corey Chowhan of Fort Frances, Ont.; and great nephew and nieces, Christopher, Tara, and Logan.

Shirley will also be missed by her extended family of aunts, uncles, cousins all across Canada, and many friends everywhere.

Her “Celebration of Life” will be held at the Blackberry Town Hall in Grand Rapids, Mn, on Wednesday, Sept. 10, 2011 at 1 p.m.
