It is with great sadness that the family of Melvyn Perusse announces his passing on July 25, 2011.
Mel passed away of cancer at his home in Winnipeg, Man.
The son of Walter and Allene Perusse, he was born Oct. 25, 1939 in Fort Frances, Ont. He attended Robert Moore and Fort Frances High School, graduating in 1959.
After working various jobs, Mel continued his education from Windsor Industrial Institute in Windsor, Ont. and Confederation College in Thunder Bay, Ont., successfully completing and receiving diplomas in Methods and Time Study, Personnel Management, and Industrial Relations.
He then was employed and worked for Great Lakes Paper in Thunder Bay and Matabi Mines in Ignace, Ont.
Mel also owned and operated the gas and service station at Bay and Algoma in Thunder Bay, and until recently had owned and operated the Nipigon Drive-In in Nipigon, Ont.
He was predeceased by his father in 1972; his mother in 2006; brothers, Walter in 1930, Duane in 2001, and Dale in 2004; and sister, Donna, in 2006.
Also predeceasing him was his long-time partner, Louise (Nault) Silva in 2007.
Mel is survived by his sisters, Delphine (Red) Lucas of B.C. and Gerarda (Bill) Brennan of Thunder Bay, Ont.; and brothers, Douglas (Blanche) Perusse of Thunder Bay, Ont. and Darryl (Connie) Perusse of Calgary, Alta.
He also is survived by many nieces and nephews.
Honouring Mel’s wishes, a memorial service and burial will be arranged in Fort Frances at a later date.
