Sonoco workers ink deal

Sonoco provides paper cores for use in rolls of paper at Resolute Forest Products and other area paper mills.
Workers voted just under 70 percent in favour of the deal.
Highlights include a five-year deal with a $500 lump sum payment first year, followed by 1.5 percent, 1.75 percent, two percent, and 2.5 percent annual increases in the final four years.
There also are key improvements in language and benefits.

A dozen members of CEP Local 324-6 ratified a new collective agreement with Sonoco Canada here yesterday.
“We are pleased to have reached a solid, long-term deal covering our forestry members at Sonoco in Fort Frances,” said Stephen Boon, CEP national representative for Dryden.
