With great sadness the family of Lena (Baba) Burghardt announces she passed away peacefully, with her family by her side, on Wednesday, Feb. 3, 2010 at Rainycrest Long-Term Care in Fort Frances, Ont. at the age of 83.
She was born Nov. 2, 1926 in Rorkton, Man.
Lena’s (Baba’s) greatest joy in life was her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. They are all very special to her heart.
She was involved in various volunteer work, such as Legion Ladies Auxiliary and doing hair for CCU residents at the hospital. She also was famous for her perogies and cabbage rolls, and always donated to bake sales in the community.
Baba made sure everyone had enough to eat, and more.
Her favourite pastimes were playing Bingo, cards with her family, and gambling trips with her daughters and sons-in-law. She was a faithful hockey fan, watching her grandsons play hockey.
Humour was her trait. She always enjoyed a good joke and could tell them just as good as anyone.
Lena was predeceased by her parents; husband, Mike in 2001; daughter, Judy, and son-in-law, Victor Ryznar in 1977; son, Brian, in 1956; as well as her brothers and sisters.
She is survived by her children, Betty (Garry) McInnes of Marathon, Ont., Beverley (Grant) Kristoff of Balmertown, Ont., Rob (Tammy) Burghardt of Fort Frances, Ont., Brent Burghardt of Fort Frances, Ont., Brenda (Paul) Soucy of La Vallee, Ont., Trevor Ryznar of Fort Frances, Ont., Todd Ryznar of Atikokan, Ont., and Glenn Ryznar of B.C.; as well as her 15 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
Also surviving are her brother, Matt, and her sisters, Mary, Pearl, and Elsie, who loved her dearly.
Lena’s (Baba’s) house was full of love and laughter, and everyone was always welcome. She was a woman of great strength and had a heart full of love.
We will miss her terribly.
Baba, you are at peace and forever and always in our hearts.
Cremation has taken place.

Not ready to leave, but had to go
Wanted to stay, but God said no
An angel is what she will always be
Now think of all that she can see
Watching over us night and day
Saying I love you in her own special way
In the night we sleep and in the day we cry
While she watches us all from the stars in the sky.
