Muskies head to playoffs

The Muskies are headed to the WHSFL’s Andy Currie ‘A’ Division playoffs once again.
The black-and-gold earned the eighth and final post-season seed following a 42-18 triumph over the St. Norbert Celtics on Friday afternoon at Canad Inns Stadium in Winnipeg.

After seeing their offence stymied in consecutive losses, Fort High’s rushing attack came to life Friday, with Cam Gobeil, Colton Craig, and John Colfer all scampering into the end zone.
Gobeil also had an 80-yard kick-off return for a touchdown while quarterback Tobijah Gerber hooked up with Finn Chalupsky for an 85-yard touchdown reception.
On defence, the Muskies wreaked havoc on Celtics’ quarterback Jake Siferd all afternoon. They came up with five interceptions, with Caleb MacIntosh returning a pick for a touchdown.
With the win, the black-and-gold finished the regular season with a 3-4 mark, which left them in a three-way tie with the Kenora Broncos and Daniel McIntyre Maroons.
But under the WHSFL’s tie-breaker system, the Muskies were awarded eighth in the final standings and now will face the Steinbach Sabres (6-1), who finished the regular season in first place.
The Sabres won 18-9 when the two squads clashed here back on Oct. 12.
The quarter-final showdown will be held at Canad Inns Stadium this Friday, with the opening kick-off set for 3 p.m.
