Busy fall ahead for Legion ladies
Thursday, 18 October 2012 - 1:16pm
The meeting was brought to order by president Silvia Gunderson at 7:15 p.m., with 42 members present.
The Charter was draped for recently-departed members Delores Cross, Pearl Wardman, and Lou Lougheed.
Initiation was held and a warm welcome extended to Heather Johnson, Vicki Jewell, and Linda Chezick as new members.
Meanwhile, several events are in the works and the fall looks to be very busy.
Today (Oct. 17) at 6:15 p.m., auxiliary members will be hosting the Rainycrest Bingo for the residents.
Members also are asked to make meat pies today and tomorrow (Oct. 17-18). Contact Rosanne Tweedie for more details.
Then on Sunday (Oct. 21) at 2 p.m., a celebration of the 85th anniversary of the Fort Frances branch of the ladies’ auxiliary will be held in the form of a tea/fashion show through the decades, with groups dressing in different eras to represent the changes through the years.
This should be lots of fun.
Advance tickets can be purchased at Northwoods Gallery & Gifts and McTaggart’s for $5 each. Contact Linda Larocque for info or to book a table.
On Friday, Oct. 26, the monthly supper will be held at the Legion at 5:30 p.m., featuring cutlets and all the trimmings. Admission is $13/person and all are welcome.
Then on Sunday, Oct. 28 at 1 p.m., a work bee will be held for craft making for the craft table at the Remembrance Day tea.
Contact Bea Galbraith if you can help out.
The annual Remembrance Day tea will be held Sunday, Nov. 4 from 2-4 p.m. on both floors of the Legion building.
On Monday, Nov. 5, the Fort Frances Museum will be featuring a display of veterans’ pictures and stories. The display will be available to view for one month.
Contact Josie Miller if you have pictures or stories to submit.
Then on Sunday, Nov. 11, the Remembrance Day service will be held at the cenotaph starting at 11 a.m. to honour our vets.
Committee reports also were given at last Wednesday’s meeting. As well, a donation was approved to the Rainy Lake Air Cadet squadron to continue its program of enrichment.
The attendance draw was won by Char Calder while Maureen Ricard won the birthday draw.
The November general meeting will be held Wednesday, Nov. 14, with the election of officers to take place.
If you are interested in putting your name in for a position, contact Mary Ducharme at 274-6631.
Any ladies interested in joining the Legion Auxiliary are asked to contact Linda Larocque at 274-1567. Membership no longer is restricted to relatives of veterans.
