SIJHL loses team
After only two weeks of games, the SIJHL has lost one of its seven teams for the rest of the regular season.
In a press release issued earlier today, the Sioux Lookout Flyers announced they were suspending operations after three of their games last week were cancelled due to roster issues.
“We believe it was in the best interest of our fans, volunteers, and sponsor to take a year leave of absence to restructure and hopefully come back next season stronger than ever,” it added.
After dropping their first three games of the season, the Flyers had to postpone their next three after being unable to ice a full squad.
Head coach and general manager Derek Levanen, meanwhile, resigned from his roles last weekend.
The SIJHL is in the process of re-arranging its schedule.
Team officials are to vote on the new slate during a conference call tonight.
