Ice plant woes axe bonspiel

The first-annual “Sticks & Stones” bonspiel, a combined event between the Fort Frances Curling Club and Kitchen Creek Golf Club slated for this weekend, has been cancelled.
An issue with the circuit board in the ice plant at the curling club is the reason for the cancellation.

The problem, however, is not expected to cause any major delays to the start of the club season, which is slated to begin Tuesday, Oct. 9.
“We should be set to get things underway here shortly,” said club president Ron MacKinnon.
“It won’t be an issue to get the new circuit board in, and we have our painter lined up for next week already, so it shouldn’t cause any major issues,” he noted.
Although the inaugural edition of the “Stick & Stones” event had to be axed, there are plans to hold it next year.
“While the number of teams that signed up wasn’t huge, there was quite a bit of interest about the event,” MacKinnon said.
“So we want to make sure that those who want to take part next year mark the dates of Sept. 27-29 on their calendars.”
In other news, registration is now open for the annual men’s International bonspiel, which was moved from its usual February date to Nov. 16-17 in order to attract more rinks.
